Thanks for Thanksgiving!

Thanks for Thanksgiving
This will be at Grammy's house for PDub to enjoy.
As I look out my windows, I see the world changing colors and taking on its autumn glow.  In a day or two, I will put away the mess that occupies our space from day to day, and Papallama and I will set the stage for the Thanksgiving family gathering.  The table will be expanded and adorned with linen, flowers, and the fine china.  The silver will be polished and the candles set in place.  There is shopping to do, making sure that everyone's favorite dish can be prepared.  Ham delights, macaroni and cheese, cornbread dressing, Toll House cookies are all must haves.
The Turkey Committee

On Thanksgiving Day, the men folk will gather outside to fry the turkey and make sweet potato garnishes.  The women folk will handle the rest.  The preparations will take much longer than the actual meal where we will stuff ourselves despite our promises not to.
We use the highest sanitary standards in our kitchen!

After the meal, we will go around the table and tell what we are thankful for.  It is not easy.  We are not allowed to say family or health because those are a given, so it's a challenge to come up with something that does not fall into one or the other.  We start with the youngest and go up the chain of command.  Papallama will close for us.

Then there will be a game of RISK, minus me.  I have never played.  Don't plan to start now.

The entire time will be spent being together.  Papallama,Grammy, mama, daddy, daughters, sons, sisters, brothers, grandchild, nephew, aunt, and uncle...one big happy family. I can't wait!

  3. I also highly recommend "'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving." It's such a hit that I read it to all of my high school students too!
